CADBE

CADBE (Community Engagement, Assessment, Design, Brokerage, Enterprise) is a ground-breaking research and evaluation framework developed by the University of East London.

CADBE informed the design and delivery of the other Well London projects by researching and documenting the state of communities’ healthy eating, healthy physical activities and mental wellbeing, and ensured that Well London projects were tuned to the evolving needs of the communities, as identified by the communities themselves. CADBE did this through the Well London Community Engagement Process (see below). CADBE is also responsible for the evaluation of the Well London Programme (see below). CADBE also runs the Multimedia Documentation, and Job Brokerage and Social Enterprise (JB&SE) strands of Well London (see below).

Community Engagement Process

The Well London Community Engagement Process (WLCEP) is the first stage of the Well London Programme. The purpose is to agree the needs and desires of the local community and other stakeholders, the principles for delivery of projects, and to bring this together with other data about the target area into a Project Implementation Document (PID) that guides the delivery of interventions in each area. The WLCEP is designed to be as inclusive and transparent as possible. It consists of a number of steps including as follows:

  • Mapping and Profiling of the target area: This includes gathering census, routine and other data about the target area, and producing a baseline profile
  • Street Interviews
  • Community Cafes based on World Cafe methodology for residents only
  • Community Action Workshops based on positivist methodologies such as Appreciative Inquiry, Visual Mapping, or Open Space, for residents and stakeholders together
  • Feedback Meetings
Reports are delivered at each stage culminating in the PID.
